Just published: A volume on “Professions as Religious Metaphors” in our @sfb1475 Metaphor Papers series that I had the pleasure to edit. It’s a nice collection of short case studies on a wide arrange of professions that are used as metaphors of the divine. (My internal working title for it was “God’s jobs” 😉.) doi.org/10.46586/mp.434 #Metaphor #MetaphorsOfReligion #ReligiousStudies

Hey, informed religious folks, sincere question for you:

If you know the historical circumstances of the construction of your religion--when it was written, under what social/political circumstances, the rhetorical purposes, etc.--and that religion requires belief in the supernatural (eg, God or gods), how can you still believe in it?

NOTE: If you are simply anti-religion, this question is not directed at you. You don't have to answer it.

This is not the focus of my talk, but it affects questions about the place of religion in the #NFDI: We don’t have a consortium for #ReligiousStudies – and I don’t think we should. But how do we make sure research data about religion is Findable, Accessible, … ? We need RS compentences in the NFDI! 3/

Our English-language MA program in #ReligiousStudies attracts students from all over the world. Sometimes it can be a challenge to handle the diversity of undergrad training and disciplinary knowledge that our students bring with them. But this semester’s “ethics and politics of religious heritage” class was a delight. After a brief introduction, I let my students bring their topics, texts, and questions, and everybody contributed something. I learned so much and couldn’t have done this alone!
