I love the weird and wonderful terms of venery - the collective nouns for groups of animals (and other things). Some are evocative, some strange and obscure.

This regal (poodle) lady was a recent commission. Sometimes people offer you great photos to work from. I was uncertain about how to carve the curly fur, but my client said, “Oh! the curlz!” so I think I got it
Also made my 'Listen to Meg' print available to pre-order. I'm still working on the edition of 12 but worth sharing these early for despatch in about a week's time

For #WorldOceanDay I thought I would share a print with both a vertebrate and invertebrate ocean species. This linocut and gel plate print shows the humpback whale swimming above and a close up of the whale below with six Coronula diadema barnacles.
The Coronula diadema name comes from its barrel and crown-like shape, which can grow to 5 cm (2”) tall and 6 cm (2.4”) in diameter.
The first Saturday in June is National Black Bear Day so enjoy this Black bear linocut on translucent washi paper with bark inclusions
It’s my Improbability of Puffins.
I love this term of venery for puffins (who are indeed improbable looking sea birds). It’s part of my series of prints of groups of animals and the weird and wonderful collective nouns to describe them.

April 25 is #WorldPenguinDay so enjoy some Adélie penguins! ⠀
⠀
⠀
This handsome couple, two Adélie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae), common to all the Antarctic coasts, are hand printed in black ink with a hint of orange on white Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper. Each print is 12.5” by 9.25” (31.8 cm by 23.5cm). Adélie penguins are the most widely spread and southernly penguins (along with the Emperor penguins).⠀

Happy birthday to #mathematician Felix Klein (1849-1925). This is a hand-carved and hand-printed image of the famous mathematical object, the Klein bottle, printed in a gradient of pale yellow-green to darker blue-green on paper 8” by 8” (20.3 cm by 20.3 cm). First described by mathematician Felix Klein in 1882, this object has a single surface, rather like a 3D version of a Möbius strip.

Enjoy a wee rat mini linocut for World Rat Day (invented by pet rat enthusiasts to challenge any rat stigma). They do actually make great pets.
