This Is My Glasgow<p>Beneffrey on Springkell Avenue in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. Designed by William Hunter McNab in a Franco-Scottish Gothic style, it was built in 1910, making it one of the last grand villas built in Pollokshields. It was built for John Anderson, a director of the construction company P. and W. Anderson, which, amongst other important Glasgow buildings, helped build the Central Hotel, the Glasgow Herald Building and the Mitchell Library.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pollokshields" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollokshields</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>A rather beautiful Scots Baronial style villa on Nithsdale Road on the Southside of Glasgow. Built around 1887, it was designed by the architect W.F. McGibbon as his own house. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pollokshields" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollokshields</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/scotsbaronial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>scotsbaronial</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>Matheran from Springkell Avenue in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. Designed by Burnet, Boston and Carruthers in a Scots Baronial style, this magnificent house was built in 1903 for Hugh Dunsmuir of the Govan Engine Works. In the 1960s, Matheran became the home of the Glasgow School of Occupational Therapy, but it is now once again a residential property.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pollokshields" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollokshields</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Whitehall on Springkell Avenue beside Maxwell Park on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed by Robert Duncan in a Classical style, this villa was constructed in the 1890s. I love the little round dormer window which looks like a ship's porthole. This similarity may well be intentional as its first owner was William Gray of the shipowner and chandlers MacBeth and Gray. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/maxwellpark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maxwellpark</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pollokshields" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollokshields</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>A plaque marking the birthplace of James Allan Mollison at 33 Fotheringay Road in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. Mollison was an early aviation pioneer, and was the first person to fly solo east to west across the North Atlantic (which, due to the prevailing winds, is the more difficult direction) in 1932. He was married to another famous aviation pioneer, Amy Johnson, the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pollokshields" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollokshields</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/aviationhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>aviationhistory</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>This spectacular building is Kelmscott on Springkell Avenue in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. It was built in 1902 for the house-builder J.A. MacTaggart. MacTaggart constructed many of iconic tenements in areas like Hyndland, Broomhill and Shawlands. Kelmscott was designed in a mix of Scots Baronial and English Queen Anne styles by John Nisbet, the architect who also designed many of the tenements MacTaggart built. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/pollokshields" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollokshields</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
