I have heard the "Comic Hurry" tune a lot from this collection of Silent Movie compositions:

I understand the criticisms from the critics about "Empire Records" as a movie. But I also understand that those don't matter sometimes when the zeitgeist of the time is captured pretty darn accurately (A vinyl record store, attempts at corporate takeover, band of misfits working together--and GWAR!)
Happy Rex Manning Day!
"Wherever you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller in the best Doc Savage homage movie).
(but a whole one).
This is my bike. There are many like it.* But this one is mine.
Her name is Louise, named after the film actress Louise Brooks.
*Surly Long Haul Trucker
Despite some problematic issues surrounding both of these from a later historical perspective, they are still worth listening and watching.
Recognize the bad, learn from the good.
Bicycled 16K of the Root River Trail to Peterson and back to Rushford. Still sad Burdey's is closed permanently. The branches of this tree remind me of hands, like the scary trees in the "Wizard of Oz" movie.
First bicyclist I've seen on the trail today that seemed to be from somewhere else besides one of these numerous small towns.
Watched the animated movie "Flow". I'll have to *listen* to it later because our dog decided to bark at every sound that wasn't music. Lots of animal sounds. Must be actual ones because he doesn't bark at the amazing voicer over actor Frank Welker copying them. Watched on mute anyway and it was still wonderful and worth every award it should get.
A small thing that changed years ago. The song "Brandy" by Looking Glass was on Oldies radio stations. The internet was useful for searching for things. But every time I looked for information about the song, only Brandy, the star of the TV show "Moesha" came up. A few years later, James Gunn used the song in the Marvel Comics movie "Guardians oder the Galaxy" and it hit large again. Now "Brandy music" gets the pop star and "Brandy song" gets the song.
While I identify most with the Stanley Tucci character in the movie "Conclave" , I understand why the Ralph Fiennes character is seen as the leader of this event, able to work the different personalities without losing himself. Pretty good movie, too.
It's climate change. Proof in North Carolina, proof in California.
There's still people denying it. It's the whole movie "Don't Look Up" for real in the United States of America.
Dreamed last night of a movie, "A Christmas Story" but it's a Bollywood movie in India with a hot metal slide and instead of Santa Claus it's Ganesh the elephant whose foot comes down toward [not Ralphie]. Definitely a dream because Ganesh said "ho ho ho."
Pretty good deal for the 25th Bicycle Film Fstival that has films from 2001 through now:
Heard a story about Lin-Manuel Miranda releasing a new album based on the 1979 movie "The Warriors". We downloaded it from Hoopla from the Public Library. Spouse had never seen it but followed the story well because the concept of switching out the costuming with band styles really worked. She hated one character's voice because she doesn't care for that kind of music, but he is the bad guy. Will buy.
I public radio!
I public libraries!
Comedy Horror I like.
1940s "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein"
Can't remember any from the 1950s to the 1970s.
1980s the best are "Ghostbusters", & "Gremlins" with "Gremlins 2"
1990s had "Scream" which was really funny & somehow gets treated like a "normal" horror movie now
2000s "Shaun of the Dead"
2010s "The Babysitter" & "The Babysitter: Killer Queen". "Happy Death Day" & "Happy Death Day 2U"
2020s "Bodies3", "Renfield" & "Totally Killer"
I don't mind the actual sounds but the subtitles that say "squelching sounds" creep me out.
"I Saw the TV Glow" is an old school horror movie like "Carnival of Souls". It's more about atmosphere and uncertainty. I'm afraid modern horror audiences will be bored waiting for something to happen that never does (well, one scene--kind of). A lot does happen, but so much of it is subtext.
I liked it, but I understand why a modern horror audience wouldn't.
UPDATE: And just found out, apparently a lot of subtext I (cis) completely missed about being trans.
I forgot what a great ensemble cast "The Martian" movie had. Great performances all around.
#RebelRidge is a very good thriller movie that had my blood boiling for too much of it, because too much of the background for the fictional story is based on real life "legal" abuses of authority. At least one I've had to deal with myself in my own life.
Great acting from everyone, down to the smallest role.
Exceptionally good pacing for the story it tells.
