“Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives have scheduled a party convention the same weekend as federal Conservatives will gather to test Pierre Poilievre’s leadership.”

Doug Ford is working hard at becoming CPC leader in the hope of being PM someday soon.

Reality is summed up in this headline in The Star:

“At the Calgary Stampede, Pierre Poilievre had the same old problem: He was Pierre Poilievre”

“Poilievre’s speech suggests a leader who is unwilling to change course, and perhaps this is not even unwise. Maybe Poilievre can outlast the current malaise and seize evolving political opportunities if Carney struggles to manage an on-again-off-again trade war and fails to live up to the high expectations he has set for his own reform agenda.

That’s the best bet the Tories have, because there’s no indication of late that Poilievre is willing to concede his own limitations or make any adjustments to his style, priorities or rhetoric.”

Toronto StarAt the Calgary Stampede, Pierre Poilievre had the same old problem: He was Pierre PoilievreThe Conservative leader gave a speech not far removed from what we heard in the recent election campaign.

Pierre Poilievre:

“I disagree with separation. I’m a Canadian patriot. I still think that there is no other country in the world where someone of my modest origins would be able to make it to this place, and that’s the story that millions of people have lived and relived from across the country.”

So Canada isn’t broken?

The Globe and Mail · Poilievre says everyone will need to compromise to advance major infrastructure projectsBy Emily Haws

“Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says for the next couple of years ‘we need more people leaving than coming’ into Canada.”

“Poilievre said this move could help housing, health care and jobs ‘catch up,’ but he did not elaborate on how he would ensure more people leave the country.”

“Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre says he lost his riding of Carleton in the federal election due to an ‘aggressive’ campaign by public sector unions after he was honest about wanting to cut federal worker jobs.”

Ya, no. Approximately 86,000 people voted in Carleton and Fanjoy got just short of 51% of their votes. In 2021 PP had just under 50% and the Liberal 34%. That 17% increase in Liberal votes wasn’t just public servants in Carleton fearing for their jobs. Bruce Fanjoy creamed you because he spent over two years campaigning in the riding (like PP did across the country) and convinced people what a loser PP was.

The Beaverton has highlighted PP’s biggest concern:

“Poilievre worried there won’t be enough government left for him to cut”
