The last time the #Packers selected a receiver in the first round was Javon Walker on April 20, 2002 – 8,405 days ago. Golden was born on Aug. 1, 2003.

I like how the #Packers first round pick came prepared wearing a huge gold G around his neck!
The #Packers for the first time since Javon Walker in 2002 select a WR in the first round - Matthew Golden, whom many mocked to Dallas at 12.
Every other team in the league had drafted a first-round WR more recently.
The #Packers for the first time since 2011 select a WR in the first round - Matthew Golden, whom many mocked to Dallas at 12.
The #Packers finally take a receiver and do it in Green Bay. What a scene.
#Packers landing WR Matthew Golden at 23 may be the steal of the 1st round & he fits a significant need for Jordan Love & that offense
The #Packers just selected a wide receiver in Round 1 for the first time since 2002 — and they did it right in front of the home crowd in Green Bay.
How's this: Golden wasn't even born the last time they took a Round 1 WR.
The streak is over: The #Packers have drafted a first-round receiver, selecting Texas speedster Matthew Golden at No. 23 overall.
It's the first Round 1 receiver for Green Bay since 2002, when they took Javon Walker. Matthew Golden was born in 2003.
After discussing a trade with the #Eagles, the #Packers have taken wideout Matthew Golden at No. 23:

Matthew Golden to the #Packers. At long last, a wide receiver in the first round.
Well done. Here's what the scouts told @BobMcGinn@twitter.com.
A #Packers WR in Round 1!!!!! Green Bay is taking Texas WR Matthew Golden at No. 23.
FINALLY.
Lots of clock being burned the last few picks because of trade talks but the #Packers stay put at 23 and make their pick.
the #Packers should take Shedeur Sanders so they can get a head start and have someone to take over for Jordan Love in 2040
Tired of mock drafts yet? Thankfully, @JacobWestendorf@twitter.com isn't tired of writing them. This is his full first-round projection, including the #Packers getting a star defensive back.
The #Packers haven't drafted a receiver in the first round since 2002. Emeka Egbuka hadn't even been born.
Here's my prediction and why the streak could end tonight.
Some #Packers things I think I think ahead of tonight's draft:
1. If they trade up it's for one of: Shemar Stewart, Tet McMillan, or Mykel Williams
2. If they take an offensive player at pick 23 it's either Matthew Golden or Emeka Egbuka
3. 60% chance they stay at 23, 35% chacne they trade down, 5% chance they move up
4. IF they move down with Cleveland or NYG so they can come up and get a QB, don't be surprised if GB takes the acquired pick at 33 or 34 and use a 4th round pick to move up to 29, 30, 31 or 32 to still pick in round 1. Basically moving down to the end of round 1, picking up a valuable pick, and only giving up a 4th in the process.
5. GB will NOT take an OL round 1, it'll be DL, CB, or WR
6. Nobody knows what Gutey is going to do, so whatever buzz there is around Johnson, Hairston, Golden etc... is fun, but it's not direct intel to Gutey, GB is extremely tight lipped with this stuff
7. The Draft in GB is going to f'n RULE!!!
