Well, I've given up on Edge Wear for the moment, and done some procedural rivets.
Thanks to "Artisans of Vaul" for the way of duplicating a face, parenting it back, and then sizing to suit. Instance rivets on Points of new Face.

I know it's looking janky right now, but it's just the basic block-out.
Hopefully it will come together as I refine it

Still not happy with materials, but I don't feel like spending many hours slightly tweaking the shade of brown.
