The yield of #cider apple trees are still very low, no cider this year. Perry pear is doing better but my #perry always have had a weird taste not sure why. Thinking I will make apple sauce with the less sightly apples this year. What to do with the perry pears? #gardening #Orchards
Decent looking apples. I am still fighting codling moth, not sure how to get rid of them. Tried hormone traps, I also threw away all apples last year to create a break in the cycle. This year was better but still have them. #gardening home #Orchards.
On my Self-Improvement shuffle/jog/walk (I need to Move More) today before Lunch, I trekked along the quarter-mile flood control channel/Green Belt at the edge of #town. Along which there are scores of mature #Eucalyptus #Trees (Blue Gum? White bark. Pretty pink #flowers this time of year). And Boy Howdy, they all were a-buzz with #bees. There are bee boxes throughout the region, to foster #pollination among the vast #almond #orchards. #Spring2025 #SacramentoValley #NorthernCalifornia

Abbas Al Hajj Hassan, the Lebanese minister of agriculture, says Israel is continuing attacks on southern Lebanon despite agreeing to a ceasefire with Hezbollah last month.
The latest attack was the bulldozing of citrus orchards in the southern town of Naqoura, near the headquarters of the UN’s peacekeeping mission in the country.

We have been doom and glooming for the last week and I've finally said fuck it. Although I don't yet know what the solution is, we're not running away. We'll do something.
In this new spirit, I am going to add more #walnutTrees across the road from my main orchard. This is obviously not a political action but it is forward motion. At least I can continue to convert old fallow hay fields into productive carbon capturing and food producing #orchards.
It will also keep me from getting into too much trouble.

Another bird we increasingly see at Beau Vista orchard is the Kererū or native NZ wood pigeon. Considered a taonga or treasure to Māori, the kererū was historically a major food source in Māori culture being a big bird. However, due to the decline in its population from predators , hunting is illegal. Customary use of kererū is currently restricted to the use of feathers and bones obtained from dead birds collected by Department of Conservation #ornithology #orchards #Aotearoa #NewZealand
