Mike 🇬🇧 🇪🇺As a follow up to my last toot about my proficiency in French - here's a potted life story.I left school in 1971 with three failed French GCE results - I loved French but was useless.I took my bike to France and cycled on my own for a couple of weeks ( <a href="https://gaylers.me/travel/2025/01/France1972" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank">https://gaylers.me/travel/2025/01/France1972</a>) - speak French or starve!After taking the children to France camping and later going to Marocco I decided - in my 50s - that I wanted a piece of paper to make up for those failed exams. So I started a Diploma in French with the Open University.I was persuaded (I may have been drunk) to turn the diploma into a full degree at a Summer School. That's how I ended up with a BA in Humanities (French & Art History) graduating after I'd retired, and speaking a bit of French on the way.
