I know it hasn’t got many users, but I just open sourced my way of crossposting from my website to my account here - github.com/j4ckxyz/site2nostr. At the end of the day, 1 of the protocols will need to win, so may as well automate posting to some 🤷‍♀️. I suggest running it on crontab btw. Also, I had to use AI for the README since idk how to write those.

oh good now i have an identity on #nostr that i didn't want. there's no way to generate another one in MyNostr? they'll let me buy one for $20 but what if i don't want to be `emory.00000@` because it's stupid. i forgot the 1 at the end.

Comparing Decentralized Social Protocols: Why ActivityPub (Fediverse) is the Best Choice Over Bluesky (AtProto) and Nostr

The #socialweb is shifting away from corporate-controlled paths like #Twitter and #Facebook toward decentralized, more #DIY alternatives. The idea is simple: instead of a single company having control, decentralized protocols allow different platforms to connect while giving people the power to shape and control their digital paths. Three major decentralized protocols have emerged: Fediverse (#ActivityPub) – The most established and widely used, forming a "native" backbone of the […]

Fediverse, what are your thoughts on Nostr? I've been using it for a few days now and I frankly like its capabilities more than activitypub for a few reasons:

1. I am not at the mercy of any one server admin for my account to be held without self hosting.

2. The clients are much more diverse

3. You can do a lot more with a single Nostr account and client (using Amethyst allows you to participate in group chats, DMs, a marketplace to buy things, live streams, etc without accounts on multiple servers running multiple different backends)

4. Speaking of DMs, they're encrypted on Nostr aside from metadata.

5. Zaps are a super cool integration

6. A little bonus: I can view most of the mastodon accounts I follow on there anyways thanks to the mostr.pub bridge.

That's probably where I will be both posting and viewing mainly from here, but I'm curious how people on Mastodon view Nostr as well. To me it seems like it accomplishes what ActivityPub wants to while being a little less centralized and adding better functionality to clients.
