A little #PSA about the @mastogram@dindon.one service if any of you use it to bridge their #fedi account with #bluesky .

The service is operated by a company called behind.ai which I guess mean everything you give them would processed into #ai bullshit.

Since I LOVED bridges and content stealers the account took a suspension here .

Also since they don't know how to code, the title element on the mastogram website still say "behind.ai"

Hi and thanks!

I am not an expert but there have been a couple of services to automatically bridge posts to and from various fediverse appliances and Bluesky. They weren’t opt-in, as I would’ve preferred, but claimed to offer an opt-out option if one put the #NoBridge hashtag in one’s profile. I don’t know if it works, but I keep it there because I seldom look at my profile.

@atomicpoet @dansup we should be building tools to create better experiences, not griping about and the sort. There will always be people not following the rules. If you care about privacy, don't post PII, and don't post anything you wouldn't mind falling into the hands of big tech. In the age of LLMs they will do everything they can to circumvent any protection implemented by fedi devs and they have way more resources. UX > Fedi social norms 100% of the time IMO.

@yappari

because any #socialmedia with vulture capital #venturecapital behind it will eventually become #twitter

you cannot trust any social media that is not a #nonprofit

because of the governing structure

#threads is Fuckerberg, sorry #Zuckerberg #Meta

and #bluesky is cool, but all it takes is the #crypto bros and #capitalist sleaze funding it to get antsy and it is going to shit with #ads, #spying, and #political manipulation

it's not worth investing your time

i’ve trained myself to become such a committed hashtag loather that even putting “#nobridge” in my bio was an unpleasant experience (not that i have the hubris to imagine a third party would be nonconsensually bridging my shite to blu€sky but sometimes you have to take the pettiest of opportunities for performative anticapitalism)

On a related matter, there’s also the #Bluesky bridge to the #fediverse. I think it’s still developing, but no longer marked “work in progress.” It worked well enough for me on mastodon.social. I think it may be coincidence that it had issues around the time I migrated. But in the last week it’s also started working on the new instance.

There are some limitations. The biggest is no support for edits. There is also no support for polls, which is too bad for #HangTrek & #SarlaccPit. I’m not seeing replies or other interactions coming through from Bluesky at all, though occasionally I can see a reply there on my bridged profile. It’s imperfect, but there’s some good bits & it can help attract eyes to your content. And it will probably evolve more features like poll support.

Most of your public (not quiet public or lower visibility) posts are replicated on Bluesky if you opt in by following @bsky.brid.gy. You can block the bot at any time to undo the bridge & toggle on/off with follow/block. You can also add #nobridge to your bio to avoid being visible outside #Mastodon (including #Threads). Without bridging, you can follow Bluesky accounts on Mastodon, but your replies will not be visible. The Threads bridge is entirely one-way afaik, at least for now.

Here’s my bridged Bluesky profile. You can see when I boost another user whose account is also bridged, the boost shows up on my profile. If I boost someone who’s not bridged, the boost doesn’t show up on Bluesky. There’s a small delay (minutes), but not much.

I don't think the guppe instances are bridged to Bluesky.
