David AllanSt Michael's Mount, near Penzance in West Cornwall, bathed in warm July sunshine (although if I'm being honest, a little warmer than was comfortable). A very enjoyable two weeks spent in one of my favourite parts of the UK. Travelling the 500 miles back home to North East England on Saturday and the temperature was a uniform 29°C (apart from hitting 32°C in Somerset) – it was a bit depressing watching the temperature drop ten degrees on the final few miles. Stewart TolhurstToday I did something I never thought I’d do, I walked out of a National Trust property. Why? Because they pulled the ‘Health and Safety’ card on my husband, who doesn’t wear shoes *ever* (Birkenstocks is as far as he will go if really pushed). It’s such a bogus response (H&S legislation applies to staff not members of the public) - if I hadn’t been so aghast I probably would have argued the toss and asked to see their policy and risk assessment! She event suggested he use the shoe covers (which is reasonable to protect the floors from muddy boots) which *would* have been unsafe on bare feet!
