Most of the water goes to agriculture and the lion’s share goes to water for animal feed crops (cattle). No one should be growing alfalfa in the desert, one of the most water intensive crops.

Colorado River water is over-allocated. #Agriculture uses the most and feed for cattle uses the lion’s share of that. We are literally exporting water globally in those crops.

As the struggle for life and the fight for our future intensifies, it ignites and escalates conflicts over water and food.

Last week, 30,000 people responded to the call of "Les Soulèvements de la Terre" (Earth's Uprisings) to block the construction of mega-reservoirs that enclose the water commons away from ecosystems and small farmers for the benefit of industrial, export-oriented monocultures.

Macron's French state (which has just passed a hugely unpopular law raising the retirement age without a vote) responded once again with thousands of riot cops, unleashing terror, violence and repression. More than 200 people were injured, some blinded, 2 people are still in a coma.

In response to right-wing fear-mongering about eco-terrorism, the Minister of the Interior quickly announced the 'dissolution' of Les Soulevements, a decentralised, grassroots, popular social movement supported by farmers, unions, NGOs and intellectuals.
