My first MMO was Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR).
It wasn't a perfect game. Pleanty of bugs, but it had probably the best PvP of any game at the time. I played a Goblin shaman named Buzznutz. He was a healer build, and I have never felt more effective as a healer as I did playing that game. I was keeping our tanks up, and the shield walls strong.
A year later, the server I started on, Phoenix Throne, was no more. It was a victim of declining server population, and was shut down. It was a sad day, and the first time I ever experienced that grief of losing an online community.
There are some deaths I never really got over:
1) My grandparents
2) Joe Strummer
3) The death of Phoenix Throne
These days I'm full bore into the Elder Scrolls Online. I have found a wonderful guild, and don't see myself leaving this game any time soon. But nothing beats those days when I would get home from work, log in to WAR, and and jump into the WWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHH!!!!!
Yes, there is the fan-maintained Return of Reckoning, but it doesn't have the same feel. I dunno. If I can get it to work on Linux, I may just peek in to see what's going on.

I skipped from #ADnD2E to #DnD5E, so my experience with 3E and 4E is primarily from the #NeverwinterNights #NWN series, and the #DnDOnline #DDO and #Neverwinter #MMORPGs.
But, I didn't play #Neverwinter much, because I just found the 4E-based system too alien. Computer games are only ever going to be a poor substitute for real #RPGs, by which I mean exclusively #TTRPGs and resent the fact that I have to say so.

Unlike a lot of other #MMORPGs, #FFXIV forces the player into party play. You can't progress the MSQ without it.
Also, the game allows and encourages each PC to hold multiple classes (but not in the #DnD #multiclassing sense, each class/role is exclusive, only one can be active at a time).
So, FFXIV forces the player to learn party dynamics.
I now understand why WotC came out with #DnD4E, and its Roles of "Controller/Striker/Leader/Defender" in an attempt to mimic the #WoW style of play.
......well this is a weird blast from the past to be hearing about in 2024, but apparently someone in Classic WoW figured out how to bring Corrupted Blood to Stormwind again.

I've been gaming since I was 4, married a fellow gamer, and we have a little gamer too! Our #AuDHD household is always lively & fun.
When I'm not gaming, I explore my creative side as an #indieauthor, graphic designer & #photographer, and I dabble in #programming and cybersecurity research.
So, I wanted to try #ThroneandLiberty last night, but because I'm in the Philippines, I can only try the South Korean version.
Problem is, character creation REQUIRES a verification code that goes through your mobile phone.
My problem is my house is a mobile signal deadzone, and when I tried to get codes, the codes never arrived (even 12 hours later, no texts).
Back to #WorldofWarcraft for me. :D
So... I was curious about how to consolidate my WoW gold, as I don't have a lot of it compared to longtime players.
I used the warband bank to move 25,000 gold from Wyrmrest Accord horde characters and into the pocket of my Aerie Peak Alliance-based Hunter.
Now I just need to decide if I want to shell out real money to turn my Human Hunter back into a Night Elf or something else.

To get that Quicktongue III, even though I've already exhausted the quest rewards where I could have got it, I could:
1. Continue to farm Phys DPS materia and roll the dice with Transmuting at random. (slowest, maybe).
2. Add a Magic class, and farm Magic materia that way (faster).
3. Pony up for the subscription fee and simply buy it on the Market Board (fastest, pretty much immediate).
I don't generally play Magic PCs in #mmorpgs, because the mechanics tend to be even more complex. #gaming
So @nimgimli put it in my head, all Inception-like, that WoW might be nice to visit, but it's been so long that I don't even know where my characters are on server-wise, and what to expect.
I missed a few expansions, so that's a lot of ground to cover optionally, and I don't know how to return.
I was thinking of resurrecting my Hunter, which I started the game as.
