I actually don’t celebrate #Kwanzaa but I happened to go to a Kwanzaa celebration back in December and noticed the ceremonial goblet that is placed on a table along with candles, food, and other offerings. I decided to make my own versions of the Kwanzaa Unity Cup, which symbolizes togetherness. Now more than ever I’m feeling the importance & comfort of gathering with friends & community, which I have to balance with my introverted nature that also loves being alone.

Imani is the seventh and final day of Kwanzaa, and it means "faith" in Swahili. It's a day to celebrate faith in oneself, others, and the struggle for a better world. Imani is also a time to honor family and community traditions, reaffirm self-worth, and triumph over struggle.

A journey continued:

Though the rail has been hidden...winter's clouds cover...autumn's exuberant quilt...we must provide our own guideposts...

I have heard ...from previous visitors...that the road washes out sometimes... passengers are compelled...to continue groping...or turn back...I am not afraid

I am not afraid...of rough spots...or lonely times...I don't fear the success of this endeavor...I am Ra...

Today is the 6th day of Kwanzaa and the principle is Kuumba, creativity. Nikki Giovanni's been in my thoughts so I'm posting something from her because she was the embodiment of the creative mind and the piece also speaks to where we are now. It will run 2 more posts probably.

A Journey

It's a journey...that I propose....I am not the guide...not technical assistant...I will be your fellow passenger
