I can remember back when the Internet was only used by hackers and universities, and was perceived by the rest of the world as "computer nerd stuff".

I miss that.

I think that part of why discussions are currently hard on the Internet may be that a lot of us have a) grown. Our standards are higher, especially ethical standards. That takes us further away from those who are opposing those standards. We find ourselves outside of the Overton window, discussing with people who have not followed. And b) we've been burned or disappointed so many times. Lots of triggers, and it takes so much effort to deal with that.

Interesting to see what the internet remembers and what it forgets. I was trying to find some game dev stuff that was common wisdom in the early 2000s and back then discussed on multiple websites in detail. All that seems to be left on the internet today are forum posts where people asking questions about the topic are being told to just google it.
