Sally Strange<p>I continue to muck around in the bottom of the rabbit hole labeled "Paul Kammerer, Lamarckism, and the history of science". </p><p>These authors think he probably did fake his results. One point of evidence: he acted as if his European cave salamanders were reproducing once every year. He got away with this in the 1910s and 1920s, when nobody really knew much about <em>P.Anguinus</em>. Research done during the second half of the 20th century shows that these salamanders reproduce on average once every 12.5 years - something that works for them because they live extraordinarily long lives for salamanders. </p><p><a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/310153558_Paul_Kammerer_and_the_inheritance_of_acquired_characteristics" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">researchgate.net/publication/3</span><span class="invisible">10153558_Paul_Kammerer_and_the_inheritance_of_acquired_characteristics</span></a></p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Science</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/HistoryOfScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HistoryOfScience</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/biology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biology</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Salamanders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Salamanders</span></a></p>
