SewBlue
My fitting zipper worked! Didn't expect it to work on a corset, but it did!

I've used synthetic whalebone rather than steel or rigilene boning, so it will settle in with wear and mold to her shape. Leif IngholmThe day after the 1814 new years ball was like being in a period drama, with all the excitement, expectations and proposals. Eva the sewing historianNothing makes me feel so pretty as a good photo shoot in historical costume. This is a 1550s Venetian outfit. I originally made it to wear at our baronial investiture (SCA) in March, but ended up in the kitchen instead. And this is not a gown for kitchen duty 😉. #sca #historicalcostuming #renaissancefashion #sewing

Eva the sewing historianI made an early imperial Roman tunica. I don't have anywhere to wear it ATM but I couldn't resist te 100% wool etamine. And I love these flowing garments, just two rectangle sewn together and pinned together at the shoulders. I am using buttons until I find some nice, small, and lightweight Roman fibulae. I will get fabric to make a stola too, and fix my hair, and not wear socks 😉
#romancostume #historicalcostuming

Sini Tuulia
Me, listening to the jazz and swing music made in the style of the 1920s: Oh that's nice
My goblin brain: You should make a flapper dress, not like the costumes but like they wore
👩: I absolutely do not need to get started on another era, nor do I need a flapper dress, and I don't want to buy frivolous fabric
🧠: You could probably take apart that one second hand dress you got from that one friend that kind of looks like a flapper dress but is the wrong shape?
👩: ...intriguing.

#HistoricalFashion #HistoricalCostuming

Sini Tuulia
The highly scientific method of figuring out the squishing factor of your fabric for cartridge pleats: It will only want to fold as tightly and densely as the thickness and malleability of the fabric allows, just squish it until you've got about one centimetre of squished fabric, mark it down, eyeball if you've got enough gathering happening. If you do, just sew in the gathering threads, ease it onto whatever you need to. Not enough? Deeper pleats, repeat.

#Sewing #HistoricalCostuming

Alecto
One of my issues with #HistoricalCostuming is that I have less than zero interest in the underpinnings, other than stays and corsets. Zeta Jane
I made this outfit a while ago and it's still one of my favorites. It was mostly inspired by Edwardian fashion.
