He obviously needed help, and he wasn't getting it. It's also possible that drug use played an indirect role in his death. Substance use isn't a crime, addiction is a personal healthcare issue.He was a bad politician, there are plenty of things to criticize. However, it just goes to show how damaging criminalization of drug use is; instead of using safely, prisoners would rather risk death than risk further criminalization. Too many people also believe prisoners "forfeit their rights" (they don't, by law).
