Sixteen tomato plants, 2 cucumber plants and 7 sweet pepper plants all sown by me in April and in their final (4th) containers in the greenhouse before the month of June. Just. For me this is a record. Thanks to the warmest Spring for years.
The greenhouse is kept frost-free and seeds are raised in an electric propagator but no other heating is used.
The 4 containers are seed tray, 3" pot, 5" pot and final pot/trough.

The #GrusonGewächshäuser (botanical garden in #greenhouses) in #Magdeburg features a lovely meadow of #wildflowers at the moment!

The garden was created by industrialist and plant collector Hermann Gruson, who bequeathed his extensive succulent collection to the city after his death in 1895. The greenhouses opened to the public in 1896. Today it houses 4,900 plant species.

Westmount Public Library Conservatory.

The English-speaking Montreal enclave of Westmount was among the first municipalities in Canada to establish a public library in 1899.

In 1927, an elegant conservatory, or palmhouse, was built to connect the library with neighbouring Victoria Hall. Open to patrons, it offers a lush reading space in all seasons!

Tomatoes planted in the #greenhouse 🌱🍅
One of the little everyday pleasures that of course does not cover my food supply but gives me something to nurture and anticipate.
The tomato plants were selected from the organic gartneri-toftegaard.dk. I have previously grown their Favorita cherry tomatoes which are the best cherry tomatoes I ever tasted. This year I am trying a blend of two cherry varieties and two “food tomato” varieties.
I am using spaghnum-free compost soil.

It has been a while, and it's time to post some overview pics of the greenhouse, and another progress update. So close to being done!

I've finished with the roof-vents - two entire panes of glass hinge upwards! They're automatic, temperature controlled, and unpowered. No electricity.

There are also some fixed vents in the basewall, just a couple 7x15" holes I cut in the plywood and installed some cheap screens / vent covers over. I have two more vent covers in case I decide I need additional ventilation as the weather warms, but done with that for now.

Remaining TODOs:
- Finish cutting and painting plywood sheathing. In the front picture, you can see half the front is white - that's where I have the plywood up over the frame.
- Weather seal and put up 1x4s over the 4x4s. With this, the structural lumber will be completely shielded from outside weather.

...that's actually it. Huh. I thought there was more. Then I can work on raised beds and gravity-fed drip irrigation.
