I saw the Stanley Nelson's The Black Panthers: vanguard of the revolution documentary last night, and thus have the police death squads of the 60s and 70s on my mind.
In the case of the murder of Fred Hampton, the D.A., Hanrahan, who gave the orders that lead to the "raid" on Hampton's apartment by that act ruined his career. #fredhampton limitedinc.blogspot.com/2025/0

"In the middle of production, the trajectory of the #film pivoted quickly when, in the early dawn of December 4, 1969, at the direction of Cook County State’s Attorney Edward V. Hanrahan, officers raided Hampton’s apartment on Chicago’s west side, murdering Hampton and fellow Panther Mark Clark in their sleep."

“Nothing’s more important than stopping fascism, because fascism will stop us all.” — Fred Hampton

On December 4, 1969—21 year old Fred Hampton was assassinated by the FBI and Chicago PD as part of COINTELPRO. FBI head J. Edgar Hoover was intent on wiping out all “charismatic black leaders.”

The struggle for justice continues.

Every day is a good day to learn the story of #FredHampton, if you don't know it, but today is a significant anniversary in that tale. While you look that up, think about why you trust certain people that know you not, and think about who your friends and foes might be in a hypothetical war of everyone against everybody.

Today in Labor History December 4, 1969: Chicago Black Panthers, Fred Hampton and Mark Clark, were assassinated by the Chicago Police, with assistance from the FBI. Hampton was chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party (BPP) and deputy chairman of the national BPP. He founded the antiracist, anti-classist Rainbow Coalition, which included the Black Panthers, Young Lords and Young Patriots (a radical poor white people’s movement). On the night of the assassination, an infiltrator drugged Hampton with barbiturates. He remained unconscious when the cops entered his bedroom, dragged away his pregnant girlfriend, then fired several shots into his chest and head.
