STAN (Sustainable Transportation @ Northeastern), a transit oriented student group at Northeastern is hosting two bike infrastructure tours coming up this fall. Each one will be led by professor Peter Furth. The first will be on October 5th from 10AM-1PM “Bikeways & Beaches in the Ruggles – UMass – Fort Point triangle" 🗓️ Saturday, Oct 5th ⏰ 10AM-1PM 📍 Bluebikes Station @ Renaissance Park Garage Sites we’ll visit include Melnea Cass path, Love Story mural (Martin & Coretta King), Mass Ave South cycle track, Savin Hill beaches, UMass Harborwalk, Dorchester Heights Historic Site (Revolutionary War), and South Bay Harbor Trail. Tour ends with lunch stop at SoWa Farmer’s Market. This ride will be 11 miles long. The second will be on November 2nd from 10AM-1PM “Greenway paths in Olmsted’s legacy: More than Just the Emerald Necklace” 🗓️ Saturday, Nov 2nd ⏰ 10AM-1PM 📍 Bluebikes Station @ Renaissance Park Garage Sites we’ll visit include Back Bay Fens (they want to keep bikes keep out!), Charlesgate, Coolidge Corner (clever parking policies; a terrible crosswalk and a great crosswalk; a protected bike lane innovation), Beacon Street and its once-and-future bridle path, Chestnut Hill Reservoir and a quiet-way route along the D Line, Olmsted National Historic Site, some really dumb bike signals in Gateway East, and a road (Riverside Road) converted to a park with bike path.
