Once I entered this old patch of woods at the edge of my hometown, the wild garlic aroma was thick. In between the trees, the forest floor was a patched flower carpet of white and purplish blue. How I love this place in spring. Because of the large quantity of bluebells, I find myself here each year again.<br>

Today the Star Tribune reminded me that lady’s slippers - Minnesota’s state flower - are starting to bloom. One of the places they recommended was Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden, not far from Minneapolis.<br>
<br>
I hadn’t been there before, so I went. The garden was charming, though a few trails (the ones where lady’s slippers are supposed to grow) were closed. So no state flower for me but I did find plenty of other wildflowers. And I liked the place enough to want to come back.<br>
<br>
Plus, there are a bunch of bike trails nearby, so plenty left to explore.<br>
