A new blog post on kerning, and how in my work-in-progress font i kern properly (example first image), and avoid a mess (example second image). In a font where the letterform is made from the white parts (reversed out), OpenType Layout kerning with GPOS rules cannot be used. Instead we have to get creative with scripting:

#Solare is a grotesque #typeface published by @NikolasType, the Cologne-based type foundry of Nikolas Wrobel. Released in January 2024, its name is derived from the Italian words for sun and #solarenergy.

I'm back again with the font designing! This time I've taken the ice font and created a more mountain style, with it's own snow peaks. It's created in OTF and TTF so can be used with Photoshop, Word and other software. I think it's a great font for snowy designs... Though maybe not the best time to make it, being that spring has sprung!
As the prophecy foretold, a minor update to Arugula https://drj11.itch.io/arugula-font that adds new glyphs, ∵⁂∴ (BECAUSE, ASTERISM, THEREFORE); a new #DutchIJ glyph (and discretionary ligature); and, somewhat radically for this font, character alternates for 0 (/zero with backslash) and J (/J with flat hook).
And fixes the 1 FDU error for

tl; dr: I need a font maker software!
I'd like to convert my handwriting into a font for my research output, as I'd like to maintain my personal handwriting in my sketchnotes but I'd like the written notes to be text.
I'm already very familiar with vector graphics and lettering but never made a font so would love an open source/free font design software to start.
I discovered a 1 FDU error in the drawing of in my font Arugula available at https://drj11.itch.io/arugula-font
So i'm preparing a new release. It won't be a big update, but i've drawn two new glyphs. I fancy drawing one or two more. Do you have any favourite suggestions? Preferably slightly out of the ordinary and usable standalone, like ⁂ and in the sample image; like, i'm not to drawing the sign for Uranus because that would entail drawing all the other planets too.
Most of the letter shapes are approaching final form for this reversed-out font-in-progress; i added what i now know to be called fishtail ends.
