#introduction - Hello, I am a postdoc at the Deutsches Museum in Munich & a lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. My broader research interests center on the intersections of #envhist #histtech #histsci #envtech #envjust #envhum.
Most recent books: “The Birth of #Geoengineering. Large-Scale Engineering Projects in the Early Stage of the #Anthropocene” (Wallstein 2021) & “Beyond the Lab and the Field. #Infrastructures as Places of #Knowledge Production” (co-ed. Eike-Christian Heine; Univ. of Pittsburgh Press 2022)
My current project deals with the history of #creosote and railway #maintenance cultures. The material history of this coal tar oil – used until today for wood impregnation of railway ties & utility poles – combines research perspectives from the #histtech (such as on #maintenance and #repair) with #envhist and #materialhistory. Its name is connected today with dozens of contaminated land sites, tons of hazardous waste, and burning #environmentaljustice issues.
Hi #historian / #histodon colleagues - I'm Nicole and I'm an interdisciplinary historian of science, technology, and medicine. I talk to farmers and scientists about cows and sustainability, I write a lot about food, and Deputy Director (working with an incredible team) at UW- Milwaukee's Center for 21st Century Studies. #agriculture #sustainability #sts #envhist #envtech
Hi #Histodons, my name is Sabrina. In my #EnvHist / #EnvTech dissertation – which I hope to hand in soonish at the UniBW in Munich () – I am investigating how, when and why #environment became a field of #Development Policy. More precisely, I am working with 2 case studies, 1 on #airpollution in #MexicoCity and another 1 on #waterpollution in #SãoPaulo. Besides, I work at the Institute for #civiceducation in Eupen (
), focussing on the intersection of civic education and media literacy
I forgot one: #envtech (history at the intersection of tech and environment). Sara B. Pritchard and I have a book on this (named, functionally, Technology and the Environment in History). https://www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/12452/technology-and-environment-history
