Rodriguez and another co-defendant charged in the attack on Fanone were set to go to trial later this month. Last September, another rioter who had pleaded guilty to assaulting Fanone was sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

Among the offenses Rodriguez pleaded guilty to Tuesday were conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, assaulting a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, obstruction and evidence tampering. The offenses collectively carry a potential sentence ranging up to decades in prison.

An attorney for the Justice Department also said during the plea hearing that the government is reserving its right to potentially seek a sentencing enhancement for Rodriguez based on an argument that his conduct could have amounted to terrorism.

His sentencing is set for May 16.

Jan. 6 rioter who used stun gun on police officer pleads guilty

A California man who assaulted former Metropolitan Police Department officer Michael Fanone with a stun gun during the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol pleaded guilty Tuesday to multiple felony charges.

In a taped interview with the FBI following his arrest, Daniel Rodriguez admitted he drove a stun gun into the base of Fanone's neck as the officer was trying to fight off rioters who had pulled him down steps on the Capitol's West Front steps.

"What do you want me to tell you? That I tased him? Yes," Rodriguez told investigators. "Am I a fucked piece of shit? Yes."

Suspect has died of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after mass shooting at Michigan State University, police say

Three people were killed and five were wounded, some with life-threatening injuries, in a shooting on MSU’s campus.

The gunman fled the shooting scenes — an academic building and the student union — starting a brief manhunt. He later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The victims' identities have not been released.
Police said the shooter was a 43-year-old man who was not affiliated with MSU. Police do not yet know a motive.

"This truly has been a nightmare we are living tonight," said Chris Rozman of the Michigan State University Police.

All classes, athletics and campus-related activities at MSU are canceled for 48 hours, campus police said, adding, “Please DO NOT come to campus tomorrow.”

Supporters of Brazilian far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro have stormed Congress as well as the presidential palace and the Supreme Court. His backers have refused to accept leftist Lula's election victory.

After hours of chaos, Brazilian police have retaken the National Congress building after pro-Bolsonaro protesters stormed the building. Police are still in the process of clearing rioters from the Supreme Court headquarters and Planalto presidential palace.

Brazil's Chief Justice Rosa Weber on Sunday said the country's Supreme Court will work to ensure that "terrorists" were made an "example" of.

Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the National Congress building in Brasilia earlier on Sunday.

Hundreds of people invaded the building, calling for military intervention to overthrow President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Lula was inaugurated one week ago.

Supporters of the former president refuse to accept that the populist autocrat lost his bid for reelection, claiming the election was stolen.
