I want to install a pushbutton timer for a bathroom fan, and a dimmer for a bedroom overhead light.

Digging into electrical boxes in our oldish house usually means a surprise or two, and the jobs tend to become unexpectedly larger.

Those following along may recall one ceiling box I changed that had 13 screws holding it in place.

So I tend to expect the unexpected now.

New path section. Very happy with it so far. 💓 A few months ago, this area was an impassible tangle of waiawi, puna rose, wild orchid, and other junk.

As I've discovered, putting a path through an area is the first step to bringing it into some semblance of not-overgrown-mess lol.

Plus, I appreciate the metaphorical import of making my own path.

@Jason844 I have three.

My favorite one (the blue one), ironically, had been sitting in the same spot out in the open for 3 months until this project began, and then got hurriedly stowed in the BACK of the room where I've put all the furnishings that used to be in these rooms that are under construction.

The second one, the green one, was broken but I didn't realize that until I'd thrown the new one (the yellow one) away.

In true #DIY fashion I have dried my tears, fished the yellow one out of the trash, put the tube back in, and taped that shit together. It's only a couple of hours. It works fine with tape.

Well I'm only 2 feet in and my caulk gun has dropped the tube 3 times. This is a brand new fancy "construction grade" dripless caulk gun and its new home is this trash box.

Yes, I know how to use caulk guns. Thanks for letting me vent.

Rebuilding Radical, Grassroots Media

For too long, our digital spaces have been hijacked by corporate interests, turning the internet into a surveillance-driven wasteland where control, profit, and censorship push aside community, useful creativity, and communities autonomy. As a first step to reclaim our media and communication networks, we need to step away from the #mainstreaming mess and build self-organized, decentralized alternatives that resist capture. Creating and supporting decentralized codebase like the #OMN, we […]

More from Hamish Campbell

We need to rebuild radical, grassroots media and networks outside corporate control.

* Creating and supporting decentralized platforms rooted in the #4opens—transparency, collaboration, and shared ownership.
* Refocusing on #DIY activism that values practice over theory, ensuring real-world impact over performative gestures.
* Challenging the dominant narratives that keep us stuck in the cycles of corporate capture and liberal pacification.

The paths exist; the ideas are clear, but stepping away from the mess requires action. Are we ready yet to break free?

I have also started putting in some granite setts into the ground.
We have lots of them, so better they go in the ground, replacing the broken up tarmac, than piled up everywhere.

The little double row of 'sugar cubes' next to the path to match the border other side. More, bigger stone setts will be added in front of the house to replace the broken tarmac surface.
