A reminder that EU_OS is a soft-fork of IBM's Fedora Linux, the free upstream to IBM's CentOS and Red Hat Linux, which are all under U.S. Jurisdiction.

If you want true digital sovereignty, you should pick an operating system that is either a hard-fork, no longer following an upstream distribution, or an independent distribution build from scratch, either of which should be outside U.S. Jurisdiction.

It is from 2005 and was revealed through an request for access to documents. Following a #FreedomOfInformation request, I can reveal that in 2005 — almost two decades ago — the #EuropeanCommission trialled the deployment of an Open Source stack (#Linux desktops with #OpenOffice) and that trial was mostly successful.

A few years ago, my dad and I bought a NAS from WD. It's been nothing but headaches ever since. Most of the time, I couldn't even get it to connect to my PC. On the rare occasions when it worked, a restart or shutdown would break it again, and none of the previous fixes would take effect twice.

Two years ago, I bought a Raspberry Pi 5. At the time, I couldn't get it working, so I gave up. But a week or two ago, I got deeply interested in Linux and discovered Ubuntu.

Exploring Linux opened my eyes to the extent of what I could actually do. For years, I've been frustrated by companies taking control and the "own nothing and be happy" idea often linked to the WEF. Now, with my Raspberry Pi, I saw a way to take back that control.

I found OpenMediaVault, Nextcloud, and GoToSocial tools that turn the Pi into a NAS and a self-hosted cloud. This setup lets us access and download our files from anywhere, completely under our control. And since I've always loved social networks but disliked the centralised giants, GoToSocial lets me run my very own one.

My dad and I decided to put our 8TB drives to good use with OpenMediaVault. But we didn't want the Pi sitting out in the open without protection. Most of all, I'm proud of myself. I thought this was going to be far too complicated. However, with patience and persistence, I managed to get it working, and now my dad and I have a powerful, private, and flexible system that's truly ours.
