I think I was JUST in Derbyshire when I took this photo from the foot of Carder Low looking north along the upper Dove valley towards the Dragons back #derbyshire #peakdistrict

A view up a green valley mottled with yellow flowers and deciduous trees. 'Deciduous' .. there's a word that shows someones being a bit pompous isn't it. 'Leafy green' would be a far better word here wouln't it ?.. no hold on thats two words. Anyway, at the head of the valley are a set of pointy hills that if you really squint your eyes, take some mind altering drugs and also have a wildly weird imagination, just might resembled a sleeping dragon. Maybe.

This is the Monsal Trail, just outside of Bakewell, in England. This portion was repurposed as a rail to trail. An amazing landscape through these hills. Just this section has four restored tunnels and the viaduct.

And like all good hikes, it ended at the pub with a pint of Cider.

The Tissington Trail outside Parsley Hay. The countryside is green and hilly, the clouds are grey and threatening. The picture shows a fork in the trail. The right hand branch goes to Ashbourne, the left hand branch is the High Peak Trail to High Peak Junction. There are a couple of cyclists about to head onto the High Peak Trail.

It's been more than 24 hours without posting bugs? Oh no.

Have an aphid (and a bumblebee), a butterfly (Pararge aegeria?), a jumping spider (Salticus scenicus?), and ... some bramble shoots. A plant? The horror!

A flat massing of tiny white flowers, facing upwards - with a large, fluffy bumble-bee on the top and a small green winged aphid on one of the branching stems underneath.

Brown butterfly, wings folded to reveal an mottled, almost stripy underside to the wing with an array of eye-like roundels at the rear edge - on a shiny, smooth, yellow-green leaf.

Black and white jumping spider, large black eyes facing past the camera, on a rugged cliff of crystalline boulders - actually millstone grit in an old stone wall.

Extreme close-up of unfurling, new shoots on a bramble plant - gren stems covered in fine, soft spines, and curled-up leaves at the tips still soft and pink, with what look like tiny spherical droplets on the points of the spines.

Metallic blue beetle: Agelastica alni?
Fly on old flower: Rhagio tringarius?
Cranefly: Tipula sp.?
Beetle on grass: Cantharis sp.?

(Even these rough identifications are an insight into a hidden world!)

Dark blue, iridescent and metallic beetle - on a craggy cliff of an old stone wall - gingerly poking at a ragged cord of spider silk.

Fly with bulbous, pale green compound eyes, a translucent, pale yellow and black abdomen and folded, transparent wings on an old meadow flower.

Cranefly - all long, skinny limbs, body and wings - sprawled between some bright green leaves of spring grass.

Small, slender beetle - dark, long wing cases with a fine fuzz of hairs - perched on a green grass leaf.

Some of today's bugs - a rather feisty sawfly (Tenthredo mesomela?) on nettles, a common drone fly (Eristalis tenax) on a bramble flower, another Rutpela maculata beetle, this time scaling the rhododendrons - and a tiny little longhorn beetle (Grammoptera ruficornis?).

(These are edited highlights from perhaps 20 minutes with my camera!)
