Daniel AJ Sokolov<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mstdn.ca/@jfmezei" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>jfmezei</span></a></span> Oh look they have finally published the fall/winter 2023 newsletter for the <a href="https://social.heise.de/tags/Dempster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dempster</span></a># fibre line. I wrote to them on May 11 to ask about the status of the project as there hadn't been an update for over a year. No response, but they did publish another file.</p><p>It says that think that can finish next year. Silver Moose<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://ioc.exchange/@anisian" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>anisian</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@AlaskaWx" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>AlaskaWx</span></a></span> <br>We drove the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Dempster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dempster</span></a> on that same trip (2008?) -- out to the first ferry -- but didn't see anything there like the millions of gnats along the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Dalton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dalton</span></a>.</p><p>I really wanted to see the church at <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Inuvik" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Inuvik</span></a>, but it was not to be.</p><p>We turned around at the first ferry (unfortunately) because the ferry operators hadn't graded the opposite bank of the river properly. We saw them nearly rip off the rear bumper of an RV coming the other way, by getting it hung up on the bank as it was getting on the ferry.</p><p>We pushed it a bit too fast on the way back, and broke the stupidly-weak joint between the cab and cabover -- sheared off every rivet holding the two together. It's a REALLY beautiful drive -- but sometimes you can't see the washboarded areas in time to slow down. So some extra caution is warranted.</p><p>I'd love to do it again, especially now that the Dempster goes to the arctic ocean, but <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/GettingOldSucks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GettingOldSucks</span></a>.</p>
