Amsterdam_XXXThe building across the street that this little girl is looking at was built in 1️⃣8️⃣7️⃣8️⃣. The apartment block is located in the “Zaagpoortbuurt” (literally: ‘sawgate area’). 🪚🚪 Marnixstraat is a main road between two famous squares (Leidseplein and Haarlemmerplein). The street has a mix of old and modern buildings, including some from the 19th century. A great deal of it used to be part of the old city walls. 🏡 🏛️ I usually avoid posting pictures of people here, but here’s an exception—an anonymous photo of my daughter, taken in our old stairwell in Amsterdam_XXXIn the northern part of the “Anjeliersbuurt”, near the “Driehoekbuurt” 🔺 (triangle neighborhood) you’ll stumble upon this blind corner. It fits within a well-known pattern of historic Amsterdam architecture in which corner facades have no windows due to different reasons. Amsterdam_XXX“De Jordaan” was developed in the early 17th century to accommodate the city’s increasing population. 🧒👧🏻👦🏼🧑🏾👩🏻👨👵👴🏻👩🏼👶🏻🧓🏽👦👵🏽 The Westerstraat itself was originally a canal known as the Anjeliersgracht, which was filled in during 1861 to create the current street. Amsterdam_XXXAnother shot from the mural by “The London Police” on the corner of the Prinsengracht & the Tuinstraat. Created as a 'protest' of the continuous graffity tags of the blind wall.
