Oh wow another #cyclist and I rode through there minutes before this happened! We were headed south on 95th from Isabelle Rd and when we got to Arapahoe there were a ton of emergency vehicles headed that way. We both chatted about how it must have been something major. (If you were the guy riding the #Emonda, I was the guy riding with you on the red #Serotta).

I wish parents and schools taught kids the rules of #bike traffic.
When I was a kid, one of my schools had an annual bike day. Everyone brought their bikes to school and there was always somebody to check that your bike had everything it needed for your safety.
Then there was a course everyone rode and got marked for how well they did. And we got told over and over which side of the road to ride on a #cyclist road or on a car road, when to use the bell and how to indicate when you’re making a turn.

These days I see all these kids and teens riding their bikes like whatever, weaving and zigzagging everywhere, not looking both ways before crossing the road, using their phones while biking, stopping in the middle of the toad, not using their bells before passing someone.

Some people also don’t seem to be able to hear the difference between a bell and changing gears! It’s ridiculous how many times someone’s given me the stinkeye if I change gears on an uphill behind them.

71 miles ride today. Beautiful weather, a bit chilly in the morning, but it was great because we didn't plan any water or food stop until 48 miles. If it were hotter, I'd run out of water way before that.

Sterling is cute for the little lamb statue, they say:

Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go.

This ride is kinda easy for me because when I ride at zone 2, I need to wait for my cycling buddy all the time. Well zone 2 ride still has its benefits.

@Amgine asks, inspired by invitations from European institutions to "poach" US-based researchers:

Q3a. Is there a PhD in human-powered transportation?
Q3b. Totally understand how the Heritage Foundation's drive to destroy #HigherEd is terrorizing (#cyclist) #students already in the system. How many are considering studying abroad?
Q3c. Are non-student bike people feeling pressure to migrate, too?

The #SaintNazaire bridge over the #Loire #river (4 km) is dangerous for any #cyclist ,because on the narrow cycle lane you get overtaken by trucks & cars that can't keep a sufficient distance. The #sidewalk for #pedestrians is too narrow, and the nearest #ferry too far away. There is a shuttle #bus for #cyclists ,but you have to book it 24 hours in advance - when all you need to do is remove one of the three (!) lanes for #cars .Avoid the area!

Another day climbing up Blue Hills (actually yesterday)! It's the only hill that is reasonably steep and long enough to get some workout in. The Strava segment is 0.83 miles with 416ft elevation gain, average 9.4% grade. Only ~8 mins of suffering.
