Secours Rouge International: Death of Petra Krause

It is with a heavy heart that we share the death of Petra Krause, in the early hours of the morning, this April 2 in Milan. Born in 1939, Petra became politically active in the 1960s and engaged during the 1970s as a revolutionary internationalist in the struggles of various countries. She sought to connect the different political and strategic points of view of the time, from Spain to Northern Europe, and distinguished herself as a revolutionary through her practice in the field. It also links her to the revolutionary forces in Switzerland, where she was arrested in 1975 and kept under the torturer regime of solitary confinement. In prison, she confronts the enemy with determination, manages to establish a connection between the inside and a vast campaign outside, this has created a close political bond with her.

Extradited to Italy, she was released in 1977, through her role in linking various revolutionary approaches, from France to Greece, including during her period of clandestinity, when she tried to confront the forces that sought to abandon the revolutionary struggle, both theoretical and practical. Today, we pay homage to the revolutionary path she traced and continue to follow her in our practice, in the struggle for an internationalist, revolutionary and communist perspective.

I found this video/lecture excellent. Years and years ago I read The Communist Manifesto and sorta understood it. But this is a great orientation to what it actually was and is within its historical context and why it keeps coming back every so often as a popular read. I'm curious, is it becoming (or has it already) become popular once again?

Former #Swedish #communist party, nowadays called #leftparty #Vänsterpartiet will be coached by Jacob #Wallenberg who is one of the big #financial names in Sweden.

Seems the communists are preparing to become a serious party that can be part of a Swedish #government in the future.

I feel as though recently I've seen an increase in leftists for whom "anti-capitalism" is practised as merely apathetic capitalism.

Too many people that use capitalism as an excuse to do whatever they want. Progress in veganism, climate activism, feminism, queer rights, etc. can all wait until after their vision of a revolution comes.

Why build up social movements using strong anti-capitalist foundations when you can use "anti-capitalism" to tear them down instead, relinquishing yourself of the obligation to participate in those movements.

It's something I've found very frustrating, especially considering the current rise of fascism.

If your "leftism" exists merely to delay and hinder social movements until your vision of a post-capitalist world arrives, then in practice you live effectively as a conservative. Leftism isn't about pitting social movements against each other--leftists need to be at the front of all social movements, advancing them as far as they can go in all social and economic contexts.

Today in Labor History March 16, 1978: The far-left terrorist group Red Brigades (BR) kidnapped Former Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro. They murdered him 55 days later. There are lots of hypotheses about their motivations, many of which are considered fringe. One hypothesis claims they did it to stop Moro’s mediation between the Communist Party and the Christian Democrats in order to halt the CP’s rise to power so as to increase the BR’s influence within the Left. Other hypotheses include the idea that BR had been infiltrated and manipulated by the CIA or by Gladio, a clandestine paramilitary associated with NATO.
