iamBullivantCharles Stewart Parnell was born on 27 June 1846. He was a land reform agitator and founder of the Irish National Land League in 1879. He was Leader of the Home Rule League from 1880 to 1882, and then of the Irish Parliamentary Party from 1882 to 1891, who held the balance of power in the House of Commons during the Home Rule debates of 1885–1886. iamBullivantCharles Stewart Parnell died on 6th October 1891 of pneumonia and in the arms of his wife Katharine. He was 45 years of age at the time of his death. He was a staunch defender of the poor Catholic tenant farmers and Home Rule. Mark MaguireAh here, I was this years old when I heard that Charles Stewart Parnell probably didn’t pronounce his own surname in the way it’s widely applied to Dublin landmarks and roads (par-NELL) but in the same way one might expect to hear in Ireland, with less emphasis on the second syllable (PARN’nell).
