James Gifford<p>24 July 1834 – Edward Taylor Fletcher contracted cholera in the pandemic and wrote about it in 1885. I edited this piece during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it changed how I read everything the man ever wrote… (the book is free online, so take a peak!) </p><p><a href="https://read.aupress.ca/read/of-sunken-islands-and-pestilence/section/8870137a-009c-4f40-9e1a-4a19885a2c06#ch1" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">read.aupress.ca/read/of-sunken</span><span class="invisible">-islands-and-pestilence/section/8870137a-009c-4f40-9e1a-4a19885a2c06#ch1</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/CanLit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CanLit</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/EdTaFl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EdTaFl</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>literature</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a></p>
James Gifford<p>Friends, I've decided to post a year of content from my edition of Edward Taylor Fletcher's works. The hashtag <a href="https://mas.to/tags/EdTaFl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EdTaFl</span></a> seems shiny and unused, so I'm taking it… This project came out during a tricky period and never really caught eyes, so I'm going to do that now! Thursday July 24th 1834 was when he contracted Cholera during the pandemic, and that's a good place to start—his earliest piece of writing.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/CanLit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CanLit</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/EdTaFl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EdTaFl</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>literature</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a></p>
Sharing bits of Canada 'eh🇨🇦<p>The Wolf That Wasn't</p><p>Farley Mowat's 1963 book 'Never Cry Wolf' changed public perception of wolves, portraying them as complex social animals, not just killers. The book remains controversial. While Mowat insisted it was non-fiction, critics have long alleged that he fabricated key events. The debate over its factual accuracy highlights the blurred line between narrative non-fiction and storytelling. <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/FarleyMowat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FarleyMowat</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/CanLit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CanLit</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Conservation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Conservation</span></a></p><p><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Cry_Wolf" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Cr</span><span class="invisible">y_Wolf</span></a></p>
