Today i cleaned up and i saw a #olympia cd 80 #calculator from 1973. It wasn't in a working condition in cause of leaked batteries. I hate this, and i try to clean up the mess. Everything was clean, but the calculator didn't want to work with rechargable batteries. Than i test it with normal batteries, because they have 1.5v instead of 1.2v. With the first set of batteries it didn't work, again. I made more cleanings and used contact spray, toke another set of better batteries ..
And .. WORKING!

I was recently gifted of a magnificent #TI57 programmable #calculator. The LED display is amazing and I love it 😍 However, I would like to have a little chat with the engineer who thought it was a good idea to use a red wire for the negative and a black wire for the positive connections of the 9V battery. 😤😠 I’m glad I first checked online. I could have destroyed it on the first attempt. In the battery pack the NiCd elements are leaky and much probably the boost converted is gone, too.

I found a kewl compact long-period clock for Minecraft redstone yesterday, but calculating the settings to get the period I wanted was a pain.

With a bit of HTML, CSS, and JS and an unknown amount of my evening, I am now +1 period calculator for said clock:

Context: I've been quite enjoying the puzzle aspect of Minecraft redstone when designing contraptions for a survival world I've been playing for the past ~1-ish years (I forget exact start date), and I wanted a cactus flower farm.

Cactus flower farms, according to the wiki, need a period of 34 minutes and 6 seconds.

I have purchased a few new #electronic devices over time, ranging from vinyl record players (decades ago) to mobile phones (months ago). But none of them hold a candle to the excitement associated with gently unpacking a new #HP #RPN #calculator and cracking open that thick #programming manual.

My choices were never the best that money could buy, just the best that I was able to afford. Nevertheless, I recall vividly those moments, despite the passage of time.

"Curta Mechanical Calculator"

Modelled, textured and rendered in Blender. Initially conceived in Austria in the 1930's by Curt Herzstark, who continued to develop the design even after he was sent to Buchenwald concentration camp. Brought into production in the late 1940's, Curtas, about the size of a small pepper mill that could be easily held in one hand, were considered to be the very best portable calculator until they were gradually displaced by electronic machines in the 1970's.
