In the middle of the city’s ‘Red Light District’ stands the “Oude Kerk”, the city’s oldest building, founded in . Its vast wooden ceiling, gives the Gothic interior a unique atmosphere.
The church shifted from Catholic to Protestant after the Reformation. Many locals were buried here, including some prominent figures, like Saskia van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt’s wife.
Now a cultural venue, it hosts exhibitions, concerts & art. Though no longer used for services, its historic soul remains alive at the Oudekerksplein. ️
We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground. Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery was the third chapter of my trip throughout Flanders Fields in the summer holidays of July 2019. In my eyes it is the ultimate proof for the human demise and fail that is found in Belgium and a place where the usual life we all live day by day takes a respectful rest.

The appeal is for a suit filed against the Poarch Band of Creek Indians for building a casino resort on the site of Hickory Ground's sacred burial ground in #Wetumka, Alabama.
"#HickoryGround Ceremonial members marched to the courthouse this morning to sit in on the arguments and show their support.
"In a press conference immediately following, lawyer #MaryKathrynNagle (#Cherokee) thanked the court for accommodating the Nation and members of Hickory Ground. She explained it is now up to the three judges hearing the case to decide what happens next, a decision could take months to be handed down due to the complicated nature of the case. Mekko George Thompson described his as a 'monumental day'.
"Muscogee Creek Nation Principal Chief praised Nagle's efforts in the case and expounded on the importance of continuing to fight for #Mvskokvlke ancestors. 'It's been a long battle,' Chief Hill said. 'The things that are being done now are to prevent things that will happen in the future.'

Ancient burial necropolis found in southern Russia
Archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have uncovered a burial necropolis from the 4th to 3rd century BCE.
The excavation spanned an area of 2000 square meters. The burial complexes were situated on an ancient floodplain terrace, revealing 22 rectangular burial pits constructed in mainland clay.

A wondrous cross slab (replica) from Carrowantemple, Kilfree, Sligo, Ireland. 14 early Christian slabs were discovered here, and replaced with replicas between 1984-86. They only came to the attention of archaeologists in 1973. Some say the figure represents God, others Jesus or a pagan deity. I prefer the 'spaceman' determination (Credit: Irish archaeology)
