“But the very act of asking AI for help is a privacy nightmare. The AI I use knows all my software preferences. What’s the right answer here?”

IMO, the answer depends on the #AI you use. I, for example, use #MistralAI (I know it's not the best for #Privacy, but that's it). I can't #selfHost it, but I don't introduce #sensitive info at least. Also, I use #AndiSearch's AI and #BraveSearch's. Sometimes, very rarely, when nothing else works, I use #MicrosoftCopilot (for as little as possible).

“I use it mostly for image searches where Andi isn't so good for.”

I used #DuckDuckGo_Search for that.
TBH, #AndiSearch usually seems a little better at #image_search than #BraveSearch (I am using #AndiSearch these days and comparing it with #BraveSearch to decide on one of them). What I don't like at #AndiSearch is that it's slower than #BraveSearch, and that it doesn't display at least an animation to show that images are loading…

Brave Search is not there yet, but is not entirely unusable, either.

DuckDuckGo, which uses Bing's results, is far gives far more relevant and accurate results.

Brave gets especially worse with Image search. 🙃

On the other hand, in terms of feature parity, Brave is the leader.

It has all kinds of live data like, Sports (Basketball, Cricket, Football, Murican Football, etc.), Financial data (Stock prices, Indices, Currencies & exchange rates), An AI chatbot which can browse the internet, too, etc.

For now, my default will be DDG, but will use Brave on my secondary browser. Let's see 😉

I'll just remind people that you can install browser extensions like Ultimasaurus that allow you to ignore Google's AI Overviews.

chromewebstore.google.com/deta

Alternatively, you can switch to the Brave browser and use Brave Search, where you are in control over when you see the AI summaries.
