Michael Barton 🌵<p>Just got home from <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>running</span></a> the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/BostonMarathon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BostonMarathon</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/LondonMarathon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LondonMarathon</span></a> . Was a fantastic adventure! Great weather (if a bit on the warm side) for both events. Nice to be running in shorts after so much training in the cold!</p>
Read before You Ultra<p>❝And the comic moment of the day, when I opted to partake in the scream tunnel and dove in for a peck-on-the-cheek and was soundly rejected ‘OH GOD NO!’ by a seemingly welcoming young lady chosen at random.<br>—Gary Cattarin<br><a href="https://thesecondlap.blogspot.com/2025/04/failure-to-achieve-expectations.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">thesecondlap.blogspot.com/2025</span><span class="invisible">/04/failure-to-achieve-expectations.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>running</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/marathon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>marathon</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/bostonmarathon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bostonmarathon</span></a></p>

In case you need some inspiration.

From Allison Wade, author of my favorite weekly newsletter, Fast Women:

“The oldest woman to finish this year’s [#BostonMarathon] was Carol Wright, 83, who ran 5:57:02. I had the pleasure of meeting her over the weekend. She didn’t take up running until she was 69, and she thinks that’s helping her body feel good now. If she can record an official finish next year, she will tie the record for oldest woman to officially complete the race.”

An #AI generated text and image from yesterday's news:

At the 2025 Boston Marathon, Kenyan athletes made history as John Korir won the men's race in 2:04:45, alongside his brother Wesley, becoming the first siblings to win. Sharon Lokedi set a new women's course record with a time of 2:17:22, inspiring future athletes with their remarkable performances.

Excellent, that's all of the #BostonMarathon participants that I was tracking either finished or accounted for (some nasty stomach bug took out one friend, alas). Special well done to Laura Caster who just missed the cut-off last year (though was initially told she was going to be within it, and ended up in hospital pushing to make it). She was instrumental in moving the cut-off to a fixed local time, so people know. And now she's a six-star finisher. Home with 19 minutes to spare.
