Half marathon training
Week 23, run 1/3

Today I ran along #bicipolitana n.3, 8 and 9. I came to a field track and did two loops of the external park alley.

The whole route wasn't flat, there were a couple of underpasses and bridges, but I didn't have to cross the road even once.

It was a very needed physical movement after yesterday's dinner with so much delicious food inside my belly 😋

New bike lane barriers on 3rd Street

Now we're getting somewhere! I really love these little barriers - they keep cars from encroaching on the bike lane and I'm sure they're very cheap (I still wouldn't let a six-year-old bike on 3rd Street though).

Also I went by Longview this afternoon and they're making good progress on a multi-use path there as well. Very exciting!

Ken Paxton’s push for consolidation of state authority in Texas raises important questions. GOP lawmakers are advancing a "Death Star" law that limits local governments from enacting progressive policies, affecting diverse areas from urban planning to poverty alleviation programs. Critics like Steven Pedigo warn it undermines local governance and effective solutions to urban issues. "The most important transportation official in America thinks bike lanes cause congestion, decrease road safety, and don't even result in more people riding — and questioned whether there's even data to disprove his suspicions, even though his own agencies have reams of it.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's ill-informed answer at the 2025 World Economy Summit came after Semafor White House correspondent Shelby Talcott asked the ultimate Streetsblog question: Why is the U.S. DOT reviewing all bike-related government grants and programs, and is the federal government really trying to reduce bike use?

Duffy grimaced and grumbled the word 'bikes' like it was an expletive, before repeating a string of corrosive myths about bike lanes that are all too common among people who only get around by car."

@ormand.bsky.social It's spotty, that's for sure. There are far too many places in #Edmonton where the #bike lane is right in the #traffic, or marked by #sharrows, or is a glorified shared-use trail, like the new one going up Fort Road. No wonder so many bikers favour sidewalks. But I can now ride from Little Italy to the #UofA on protected #bikelanes. That alone is a remarkable turnaround in the past ten years.

Sorry to hear about the hip.
