ABC News · Central Queensland town at centre of 'battery boom' pushes for more inputBy Katrina Beavan

Three months ago today, 24th February, was the last time my #solar #batteries ran out and I had to draw electricity from the grid. Being not reliant on electricity supply is quite a good feeling. I know I'm saving money too, but it's the feeling of independence which is the best bit!

I've had the system tweaked and improved (to 14.8 kWh battery capacity) since last year, but I don't remember last spring being anything like as good as this.

We have discussed the utility of pumped storage in my timeline before (the use of dams and pumps to store energy by pumping water uphill when energy is cheap, and dropping it down through turbines for dealing with peak demand), and here is a nice piece setting out the technology for neophytes. Enjoy.
