Young Great Blue Herons Waiting For Mom and Dad: These guys look too gargantuan to be babies, but, they are between 4 and 5 weeks old., awaiting their regurgitated supper. After all, the only thing better than spiny sunfish and eels for dinner is regurgitated spiny sunfish and eels.

Here's a baby wrybill spotted, and filmed, on the Ashley River by Canterbury birder Steve Attwood. Wrybills are specialists of NZ's braided rivers, with a beak bent sideways to reach invertebrates hiding under rocks. Baby wrybills are more like fluffy grey river rocks, except when they move.

(Steve has all manner of excellent bird encounters to explore on his #Flickr account.)

Update on Rosie Pearl—the hummingbird that made a nest and laid her eggs in my back patio string lights. The twins keep growing! Swipe to see a progression of their growth. They look huge in this picture, but they are still very tiny hummingbirds. Rosie doesn’t comes as often as she used to. These babies are almost ready to take flight! 😍

I previously posted about this little hummingbird that has made a nest in my backyard patio for the third year in a row. And since I don’t have my dad to share these with anymore, I decided to share with you all. I HAVE AN EXCITING UPDATE!! Rosie Pearl’s babies have hatched!! Meet the little twins—with eggshell still in their tiny feathers. 😍 Rosie is being a good mom and making sure to keep them feed. Both pictures are of her feeding them. ❤️
