"Frontispiece to Chopin's Third Ballade," Aubrey Beardsley, 1895.

Aubrey Beardsley has a very recognizable style. He was a leading figure of the aesthetic movement and a huge figure in the development of art nouveau, as well as probably the most iconic visual artist to be associated with the Decadent movement.

While this appears to be a simple equestrian picture, take a close look at the woman's expression and the tight hold she has on the reins. She is definitely the dominant personality here.

Beardsley died at 25 of tuberculosis, which doesn't seem possible for an artist so iconic and recognizable.

From the Tate Modern, London.
