Lost History Books<p>4️⃣ During the Civil War, she began to write for the American Tract Society in Boston. The first book I can find is titled Words of Counsel for the Wise Soldier. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any copies within libraries or archives, but I did find some images in an old auction record. It appears to contain a variety of moral and practical advice for soldiers. <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/antiquarianbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>antiquarianbooks</span></a></p>

Lost History Books<p>I recently made a very exciting discovery!! Freed Boy in Alabama (1869) by Anne M. Mitchell includes a scene where everyone is singing I Want to Go Home. This spiritual was included in the book Slave Songs of the United States published in 1867.</p><p>I just found something that I missed before: Annie Mitchell’s name is in the acknowledgements for Slave Songs. I currently can’t prove definitively that it’s the same woman, but it seems VERY likely!</p><p><a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/antiquarianbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>antiquarianbooks</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>histodons</span></a></p>

Lost History Books<p>I'm currently trying to learn more about a book titled The Bible Word Method by Mrs. Lucy Evelyn Sparhawk Brown. As you can see from the cover, it was "Designed to aid adult freedmen in learning to read the Bible..." It appears to have been self published in 1873 in Talladega, Alabama. I'm particularly eager to learn who printed this book, how many copies were printed, where specifically they were used and whether an organization sponsored its creation.</p><p><a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/antiquarianbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>antiquarianbooks</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>research</span></a></p>
