#ZodiacalLight from #Oxfordshire, UK on 25th Feb '25. It's the faint triangle of light that extends up from #Venus to the Pleiades, caused by sunlight reflecting off #InterplanetaryDust. It's a challenge from here because of increasing light pollution. 39x25sec + 20 darks, Canon 1100D +10mm lens. #Jupiter, #Uranus, #M31 the #AndromedaGalaxy & #M33 the #TriangulumGalaxy are also visible in the image. Hubble gets a wide-screen view of Andromeda galaxy
Over the course of more than a decade, astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to gather up 2.5 billion pixels' worth of imagery focusing on the Andromeda galaxy --- and the results could provide clues to the evolutionary history of our galaxy's celestial neighbor.

The Andromeda Galaxy
==================

Andromeda is our closest neighbor galaxy, located around 2.5 million lightyears away from us. It's one of these object I come back to again and again, mainly because I did not yet get a capture I'm happy with. Now, this one is different and I like it a lot.

Did you know, that Andromeda is actually moving in our direction and eventually will merge with our milkyway? No need to be scared though. Scientists calculated, that the merger will begin in 3 to 4 million years and will take approximately 3 million years to complete, forming an elliptical galaxy. There are signs though, that the outer regions of both galaxies already started to collide.

The sky over the #Lauwersmeer National Park (np-lauwersmeer.nl/english-info) in the Netherlands tonight which is also an International #DarkSkyPark: darksky.org/places/lauwersmeer - 60 seconds with ISO 1600 at f/2.8 straight up with Cassiopeia accidentally centered and the #AndromedaGalaxy in the field. See x.com/cosmos4u/status/18448821 and x.com/cosmos4u/status/18448833 and x.com/cosmos4u/status/18448838 for more - the SQM reading was 20.9 to 21.0, not as good as it can get, perhaps because of lots of humidity in the air.
