The last of my #AmperSand efforts from the Slate Islands on the west coast of Scotland, a couple of weeks ago.

This one was a very special location, which isn't what I normally do with these. Still, it's the very rock upon which competitors in the Easdale World Stone Skimming Championships stand while launching their stones across the water.

I spent so long happily skipping stones here that I properly messed up my shoulder! One day I must register for the competition: stoneskimming.com/

I love the ampersand, not as a systematic tool but as a subtle inflection of my written voice.

I use it regularly but sparingly.

The ampersand is a sign of familiarity between friends. A tease, an indication of trust.

The ampersand is a flirt with the reader.

Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. We live and learn.

Outside painting weather is back, baby! It's unusually dry this year, but later this week it's warm enough again to stay outside.

I finished this #watercolor last year - starting in a garden in our village. I wanted to catch the effect of the warm sunlight seeping through the roof onto the grape vines.

I really have to remember that it's okay to make something with no plan for how it will turn out and that experimenting in art isn't wasteful. I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I wanted to try a color styling similar to what I have seen in the work of maricormaricar (Instagram) and I'm so excited with how it turned out (Jun. 17, 2019)
