Digital assistants like #Siri or #Alexa have been interpreting the user's intention and forwarding it to the necessary modules, so-called "skills", forever. Those skills can do stuff like query trusted APIs for info and so on.
I work in this field, by the way; I've built my own conversational chat bots before the whole LLM takeover. I think it's incredibly sad that things went this way.
I let the #GrandfatherClock in my great room run down again. Rather than stand there advancing the minute hand a quarter hour at a go, letting the chimes ring each time (which you have to do, since simply setting the time in one swoop leaves the chimes out of synch), I just set a reminder with #Alexa so I can wind and restart it at the time it shows.

Finally got Alexa working with Plex music using custom routines.
The trick is to create a unique playlist name in Plex. Something that no other music services currently use or would confuse. In my case I created a playlist name "favorite songs" and 2 Alexa routines.
Steps:
Alexa Routine 1:
- When I say: "Alexa, play favorite songs"
- Alexa will: "ask plex to shuffle favorite songs"
This will play your plex playlist on the device you are speaking to.
Alexa Routine 2 (play everywhere):
- When I say: "Alexa, play favorite songs everywhere"
- Alexa will: "play music everywhere". This will start playing music from Amazon music on all Alexa Echo's that are set up using multi-speaker setup on the "Everywhere" group.
- Alexa will: Wait 5 seconds.
- Alexa will: "Ask plex to shuffle favorite music"
Routine 2 piggy-backs off of the amazon music playing everywhere. This seems to be the only way to get Plex to play on the everywhere group. The only downside is that you hear some random song from amazon music for 5 seconds before it switches over to your plex playlist.

I asked my #amazon #alexa when the season of #DoctorWho is coming out. It told me Doctor Who was canceled in 2022.
“I’m sorry, but I’m having trouble accessing your music library,” says #Alexa. Again. I really wish my #Echo could get a software update, but since I got the pair of cylinder Echoes (with snazzy wooden covers) 3½ years ago on Woot, that's not happening.
But I'd still like to know _why_ if I say "play station Instrumental Chill" or anything else on Amazon Music, it fails the first time, but succeeds the second. There's zero logic to it.
Our family is looking for a new gas stove. What are people recommending these days in the way of modern stoves with all the bells and whistles, but which are #accessible in some way? A stove that works with #Alexa and/or #Google smart speakers should work fine. At our last home we had an LG which worked with the ThinQ app, and could also be connected to smart speakers. The problem was, if you told your smart speaker to start the oven, it'd set a cook timer of fifteen minutes, which is useless for just about anything, and they got to where they wouldn't accept a new timer setting.
