Xenophon: The silver mine will never run out and never suffers from inflation, so why doesn’t the city invest more in mining?

Probably true for a few hundred years, but they did indeed deplete in the Roman era.

They reactivated after the industrial revolution with modern techniques, and then really dried up a century later.

And absolutely silver can have inflation, but not at the slow rate of ancient mining.

Found a book I’d partially read a while back, decided I should finish it and get it off my “currently reading” list. It’s a collection of Shorter Works by Xenophon. I believe once I finish it I’ll have read everything he’s written.

In the section on “Ways and Means” or “Public Revenues” depending on who is translating the title.

Of course I’m also working on Stonewielder and Dust of Dreams too.

#Xenophon, in his work "Anabasis," describes passing by the ruins of a large abandoned city during the retreat of the Ten Thousand Greek mercenaries in 401 BC. While Xenophon did not identify the ruins as #Nineveh, many historians have long believed that what he saw were indeed the remains of this ancient Assyrian capital.

Vous l'avez voulu, vous l'avez demandé, voici un thread sur ma lecture de l' #Anabase de #Xénophon , récit historico-biographique de l'#antiquite par un vieux zigoto qu'était pas top tolérant et démocrate.

Si vous aimez du fond du cœur les écrivains oligarques du IVe siècle av. J.-C., fuyez : ce résumé va se moquer résolument de Xénophon. Xéxé pour les intimes.
