I'm a plotter, as I write murder mysteries. But my MCs have to react to the murder and discover what clues they can. Planning only really comes into the final act, when they flush out the killer.</p>

It's hard to distinguish and awareness only really comes in towards the end when they move from simulated training to QA testing that involves real humans.</p><p>In some ways, Carter isn't that different, as I think of consciousness of any kind we would understand necessarily evolving in similar ways. He's not sure which of his very early memories was first.></p>
