Well we made it. There, and back again, although unlike Bilbo we didn't encounter any trolls or dragons.
I would post some pictures of the fantastic views to be had from the top of Shining Tor but the cloud level was a good 100 metres below the summit. So no views, only freezing fog and ice. Bracing!
Thursday came with my first chance this week to head over to North Wales. Due to a extra high tide, instead of a walk along Talacre beach I ended up having an explore of the Point of Ayr, mostly following the Wales coastal path. Luckily dodged the intermittent hail storms - it was very wintery this day.

A trip to Betws-y-Coed was needed this week, which of course led to some mountain time on the way home . I love the many moods of the lakes and mountains. It was so calm on this day, peacefulness occasionally broken by the RAF
. And so much water running down from everywhere after heavy rain overnight. Just magical.

A lovely, sunny, calm walk today after Éowyn madness yesterday. It's been like night and day, the stillness in the air very welcome, a break for us all. I checked on a dear oak tree friend, he's looking grand! And was mesmerised by the wading birds feasting in the mud of the estuary. Though the tide was out, you could hear and see the breakers in the Irish Sea. Still a little fierce. Not fully calm there yet.

We saw orcas and cormorants and mergansers and coots and a seal. @analogist @oowm @shirleyswirley are the best! #Seattle #ElliotBay #Interbay #WinterWalks
Checked in with a favourite beech tree at the weekend. #Mostodon #OldTrees #WinterWalks #Mosstodon
Nice day for a walk around Loch Venachar. We used to have loch nights at the head of the loch when I was a teenager, but I'd never walked round it before. 12.75 miles on good tracks and minor roads.
Isn't it lovely to see blue sky after all the rain. A lovely local walk to a nearby farm today after dropping off the bike to get fixed. No major problems with it, just need a brake cable replaced.

I’m sure there’s a scientific name for the sound of ice echoing across the surface of a frozen pond….other than “cool sounds”
